No. If you wish to stay in your current Medicare Part D or Medicare Advantage plan, you do not need to do anything during the annual Open Enrollment Period (
AEP) and you will be automatically re-enrolled into your existing Medicare plan for another year (assuming the Medicare plan is still being offered next year),
along with any changes that your current Medicare plan may have made for next year.
Remember that your current Medicare Part D plan
probably will have some changes next year – so please be sure that you understand these changes – and be sure your Medicare plan is still being offered next year. You can use our online
PDP-Compare.com or
MA-Compare.com tools to provide you with a quick overview of how any current Medicare Part D plan or Medicare Advantage plan is changing next year.
Suggestion: You may wish to review your Medicare plan options for next year.
After the December 7th close of the AEP, most people will only have a limited opportunity to change their Medicare prescription drug plan coverage before next year’s Medicare Part D and Medicare Advantage plan annual Open Enrollment Period.
For example, you may be able to change your plan enrollment outside of the AEP using the Medicare Advantage plan Open Enrollment Period (
MA-OEP) or a Special Enrollment Periods (
SEP).
If you find yourself overwhelmed with all the Medicare plan choices that are available to you, you can always telephone Medicare at 1-800-633-4227 and choose to speak with a Medicare representative. Once connected, ask the representative to help you evaluate your Medicare Part D and Medicare Advantage plan options - and you can compare what you learn to your current Medicare plan.
Should you decide to change Medicare plans next year and you are in an enrollment period (AEP, SEP, or MA-OEP), a Medicare representative can process your enrollment into any Medicare Advantage plan or Medicare Part D prescription drug plan directly over the telephone. The enrollment process only takes a few minutes and includes an enrollment confirmation number that you should record for future reference.
