If your drug is no longer covered by your Medicare drug plan for non-safety reasons, or if it is covered at a higher cost, your plan must let you know 30 days before the change. If you don’t get a 30-day notice, the plan must let you get a 30-day supply when you get your next refill for the previous cost.
Another exception to the 30-day notice rule is if your brand-name medication is being replaced by a
new generic medication (new to the market). This formulary change can be made immediately and without notice.
