On September 27, 2018, Aetna announced that the company has entered into an agreement to divest all Individual and Group stand-alone Medicare Part D prescription drug plans (
PDPs) to a subsidiary of WellCare Health Plans, Inc.
However, the divestiture agreement is still "subject to the completion of
CVS Health’s proposed acquisition of Aetna, regulatory approvals and other customary closing conditions."
According to the
Aetna press release, "Aetna will continue to administer and provide service and support for the [Medicare Part D plans] that are impacted by this transaction throughout the 2019 benefit year to provide continuity for the Medicare beneficiaries in those plans. Members will see no change in their service, 2019 benefits, networks, formularies or premiums as a result of the sale."
Members of Aetna Medicare plans with questions about the divestiture are encouraged to contact Aetna Member Services using the toll-free telephone number found on their Member ID cards.
Aetna's other Medicare plans or products are not impacted by the agreement, including: Individual Medicare Advantage plans (
MA and MAPD), Group MA plans,
Medicare Supplements, Ancillary, and Commercial plans or products.
