Find discounted prescription drugs at local retailers with the RxSavings-Center

Category: Your Medicare plan coverage
Published: Aug, 30 2013 09:08:03

Although most people are well aware of the discount drug programs offered by national or regional retailers, they don't have an easy way to compare the programs and determine where they should make their purchases.  With our RxSavings-Center, you can quickly compare the different discount drug programs in your area and see which offers the most economical medications.

The prescription drug information in the RxSavings-Center is organized in several ways. You can browse through the medications alphabetically by drug name, by drug usage category, or by retailer.
.

Example of Searching for the drug Potassium Chloride

First, you need to click on the first letter of this drug. So we will click on the letter "P". Now you will see a list of all the drugs that begin with the letter "P" that are covered under one or more discount drug plans.

When we use our mouse to scroll down to the drug "Potassium Chloride", we need only click on the name of the drug and see the details of the discount drug plan or plans. You can click here for an example of the discount coverage of "Potassium Chloride".

You will notice that this drug is covered under several different discount drug programs including those provided by Krogers, Kmart, Walmart, Walgreens, Target, Giant Eagle (from different states), and Schnucks.

The detail shows the retailer's name, the cost for the medication, the strengths and form of the medication, and the drug usage category used by this retailer.

Our RxSavings-Finder lets you compare up to four retail discount drug programs across up to three drug usage categories at one time, so you can concentrate your search specifically on those retail discount drug programs and drug usage categories that are important to you.

Whether browsing or searching, you can click on a particular medication for more details such as the form, strengths, quantity, and discount program availability. In addition, you can focus your search on a particular retailer’s discount drug program to get an idea of the available medications, as well as any discount program stipulations, such as whether a retailer’s discount drug program is available to Medicare beneficiaries.

The RxSavings-Center currently cross-references approximately 400 discount drugs that are available at one or more national or regional retailers. If you need help with the RxSavings-Center or RxSavings-Finder, take a look at our online tutorial.

We designed the RxSavings-Center in direct response to requests from you, our online community, including many Medicare beneficiaries who are entering the Coverage Gap or Donut Hole portion of their Medicare Part D prescription drug plans.  But no matter in which phase of coverage you currently find yourself, you may be able to save money and time with the RxSavings-Center. That is because the medications on these programs are not "sale" prices, but rather the retailer's regular price, they fall into Medicare's "Lesser Of" logic.  Meaning, that if the retailer's regular price is less than your plan's cost-sharing (co-pay or co-insurance), you pay only the lower price, not your plan's cost-sharing. Read more about the "Lesser Of" Logic.
