A study conducted back in March 2009 found that 88% of seniors are satisfied with their Medicare Supplement or Medigap plan - with 62% of those surveyed responding that they were very satisfied. 87% of the respondents also noted that they would recommend a Medicare Supplement to a friend.
The survey also found that what Seniors liked most about Medicare Supplements was:
* They could visit doctors of their choice,
* Medigap policies provided financial security, and
* Medigap policies made it easier to deal with medical bills and paperwork.
Medicare Supplements work along with Original Medicare coverage and are standardized across the country. Medicare Supplements are organized into Plans A through L depending on the extent of the coverage, with
Medi-Gap Plan F (High-deductible) as the most popular. (Medicare Supplements Plan C, Plan F, and high-deductible Plan F
will no longer be available to new Medicare beneficiaries starting in 2020 - people who already have these plans before 2020, can continue to keep their Medigap coverage.)
The study was conducted by American Viewpoint, Inc. by the Blue Cross Blue Shield Association (BCBSA) and America’s Health Insurance Plans (AHIP).
The study was comprised of telephone interviews with 500 randomly selected seniors (persons 65 years old or older) in March 2009. The margin of error for a sample size of n=500 is +/- 4.5% at a 95% confidence level.
