Senior Journal reported that there is a new medicine
for Macular Degeneration that has shown very positive results.
"More than one-third of patients treated with Lucentis for wet
age-related macular degeneration (AMD) showed 'unprecedented improvements'
in vision, according to findings published in the New England Journal of
Medicine." (SeniorJournal.com)
Dr. David M. Brown, of The Methodist Hospital in Houston said,
"Lucentis therapy is the most significant advance in the treatment of
macular degeneration in the history of the disease."
According to this study, ninty-five percent of the patients
treated with Lucentis maintained or improved their vision. Of these patients, 55 percent maintained their vision (defined as a loss of less than 15 letters in visual acuity) and up to 40 percent experienced an improvement of three lines (15 letters) or more on the study eye chart. Seven percent
returned to 20/20.
This is terrific news for seniors who are losing vision because of this
disease. If you or a loved one have macular degeneration, it may be worth
talking to your doctor about this medication. (Source Senior Journal.com)
