Q1Group 2018 MA/MAPD Analysis: Many counties across the country will see a reduction in the available 2018 Medicare Advantage plans

Annual Medicare plan changes · published Sep 29, 2017

As noted in our earlier "this site 2018 MA/MAPD Analysis: More 2018 Medicare Advantage plan choices", the total number of 2018 Medicare Advantage plans will increase across the country with 12% more Medicare Advantage plans offered in 2018.

However, when viewed in detail, many 2017 Medicare Advantage plans will be terminated or merged into other 2018 plans and many counties will see significant changes in their Medicare Advantage plan landscape.

As an example, the county with the largest number of Medicare Advantage plans no longer offered in 2018 is Queens County, NY.  Fifteen (15) of the 89 Medicare Advantage plans that are currently offered in 2017 will no longer be available.  In addition, members of five (5) Medicare Advantage plans will be automatically "crosswalked" to a different Medicare Advantage.  On the positive side, thirteen (13) new Medicare Advantage plans will be introduced for a net total of 87 Medicare Advantage plans available in 2018.

The counties in the chart below will have the most non-renewing Medicare Advantage plans.
