Example of 2015 stand-alone Medicare Part D plan consolidations

Annual Medicare plan changes · published Nov 4, 2014

One of the most significant name changes for the 2015 plan year is that the popular 2014 SilverScript Basic Plan will change names to the 2015 SilverScript Choice plan and the members of the 2014 SilverScript Choice Plan will be assigned to this new plan.

So both the 2014 SilverScript Basic members and the 2014 SilverScript Choice members will be in the 2015 SilverScript Choice plan.  The coverage features of the 2015 SilverScript Choice plan will be a combination of the two 2014 plans.  The chart below shows coverage changes in both the California 2014 SilverScript Choice and Basic plans along with the number of drugs per cost-sharing tier for 2014 and 2015.

From the chart, you can see that the 2015 SilverScript Choice plan  will use the cost-sharing and deductible from the 2014 SilverScript Choice plan, but the premium will be lower, even when compared to the 2014 SilverScript Basic plan.  The number of prescriptions covered in the 2015 SilverScript Choice is slightly less than either 2014 plan.
