How can the pharmacy see if my Medicare Part D plan is active?

Pharmacies and Part D · updated May 25, 2023

Your pharmacy can send a test claim through their point-of-sale system (POS) to check on the status of your membership, as long as you have either your membership card or the information from your membership card.

If you do not have your membership card or the information from your membership card, your pharmacy can call your Medicare Part D plan to check the status of your enrollment and to get the four pieces of information they would need to process your purchase:

  • your plan's group number or Rx group number,
  • your plan's BIN,
  • your plan's PCN, and
  • your member ID.

We have the telephone number for most Member Services departments online, just click on the plan’s name when using our Medicare Advantage Plan Finder or MA-Finder.com (enter your ZIP to begin) or our stand-alone Medicare Part D Plan Finder or PDP-Finder.com (choose your state to begin).
